THe butler did it

Bucktown, chicago Illinois    Completed 2023

In many of our kitchen projects we end up trying to fit more into spaces without changing or enlarging the footprint as an addition is not always feasible or necessary. To physically add space to a kitchen would then require reducing space in an adjacent room. In this kitchen remodel, careful attention was paid to both increasing storage while enlarging the footprint, but at the same time recognizing how visual cues can alter the perception of space.

The Bulter’s Pantry was the major new element we introduced. Separating the kitchen from the formal living room and entry, this area provides and a new focal point. The eye sees all 3 spaces and tells our brains that the overall floorplan is indeed larger, when in actuality it is not. Materials unique to the space were used to delineate the separation. Steel cabinetry with dark painted base cabinets are accented with white marble countertops and antiqued mirror backsplashes.

At the new hall created between the living and kitchen spaces a decorative white leather top creates a sense of style and luxury. Pin striped carpet runs along the dark stained existing stairs up to the second floor.
